Civil engineers have one of the world’s most important jobs: they build our quality of life. With creativity and technical skill, civil engineers plan, design, construct and operate the facilities essential to modern life, ranging from bridges and highway systems to water treatment plants and energy¬ efficient buildings. Civil engineers are problem solvers, meeting the challenges of pollution, traffic congestion, drinking water and energy needs, urban redevelopment and community planning.
Most people can not imagine life without the many contributions of civil engineers to the public’s health, safety and standard of living. Only by exploring civil engineering’s influence in shaping the world we know today, can we creatively envision the progress of our tomorrows.
Civil Engineering is the broadest of the engineering fields. Civil engineering focuses on the infrastructure of the world which include Water works, Sewers, Dams, Power Plants, Transmission Towers/Lines, Railroads, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Irrigation Canals, River Navigation, Shipping Canals, Traffic Control, Mass Transit, Airport Runways, Terminals, Industrial Plant Buildings, Skyscrapers, etc. Among the important subdivisions of the field are construction engineering, irrigation engineering, transportation engineering, soils and foundation engineering, geodetic engineering, hydraulic engineering, and coastal and ocean engineering.

HOD’s Message
Hearty Welcome to Civil Engineering Department, DPGITM Gurugram. The Department of Civil Engineering, one of the founding Departments of DPGITM, over the years, has grown tremendously, and is now recognized as one of the best and major Engineering Departments in the NCR Region and ranked highly in terms of results of MDU examination in the department of Civil Engineering. With its multifaceted, it provides high quality teaching and research. We provide very attractive facilities and environment who joins the Department as Faculty or Student.
As the problems the society faces are multi-dimensional, so must be our efforts at combating them. With this view in mind, since the inception of the Department, our goal is to do research in challenging engineering problems and provide efficient engineering solution in the various sub-disciplines of Civil Engineering. The department has strong focus in the research areas of Transportation Systems Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Construction Technology and Management.
The Department has B.Tech program in Civil Engineering. Department has 17 high end teaching and research laboratories in these areas such as Soil Mechanics Lab, Foundation Engineering Lab, Engineering Mechanics lab, Structure Analysis lab, Engineering Geology Lab, Surveying Lab, Geomatics & Areal Surveying lab, Material Testing & Evaluation Lab, Fluid Mechanics Lab, Hydraulic Engineering Lab, Auto Cad Lab, Design of steel Structure Drawing, Irrigation Drawing, Building Drawing Lab, Environment lab, Highway Engineering Lab, Transportation Engineering Lab. The Department also hosts various seminars and training program for learning various designing software.
The Department is actively involved in basic and applied research and consultancy and provides high quality technical support. Through academic and sponsored research our faculty and students have published large number of research publications in quality Journals having high impact factor. In the recent past, the Department has attracted significant research and delivered excellent output in terms of implementable solutions.
We also provide training to student in the design and construction area as well so that they can correlate the subject and practical application.
We also take the students for survey camp so that students can visit the field and prepare the topography sheet which is helpful for understanding the problem comes during survey in the field.
The Department disseminates the knowledge gained from its high quality research through training programs and interacts with world renowned personalities through workshops and conferences. The students and faculty have won prestigious national and international awards and recognition, and continuing to bring laurels to the Department and the Institute. Quite a good number of our faculty members continue to be Editors or Associate Editors or Members of the Editorial Boards of number of reputed International/ National Journals.
